I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to share this image publicly or not. I will be 37 years old next month. I have been married to Dean for almost 18 years. Yes, I did marry him when I was 19 years old. I cannot believe my oldest is 3 years away from that. Wow. I don’t recommend getting married in your teens; however, it worked, and I’m grateful now that I did 🙂
I came into the photography world about 17 years ago. I briefly worked for another photographer. Years later, after my kids were already out of the newborn baby stage, I began to photograph pregnant women and babies. I missed out on having my own children then and getting the photos of my pregnant belly or even just a picture of my husband’s big bare tattooed arms around me. I considered having another baby a few years ago. Dean said he would have another if that made me happy. I thought long and hard about it. Even though I love babies, my kids were way too old (in my opinion) to start over with a newborn. I realized that my push for having another baby was because I really wanted those pictures I never had. Haha. That’s not quite a good enough reason, now is it? I didn’t want to mess up a good thing. Our kids are great, we are having so much fun with them, I knew going backwards wasn’t a wise move. So I got a puppy haha 🙂
At any rate, I asked Dean to take this picture with me. He was not so sure about the idea. Sure, we both have extra weight that we don’t particularly want and I currently have braces on my teeth and I’m re-growing my hair out, but I finally realized there is never a perfect time for pictures. So I pulled a pop-up backdrop out of the back of my car and a lighting setup, a tripod, and a remote trigger, and just snapped it. There, finally, I have the tattooed arms around me, and I didn’t have to be pregnant to take that shot!
So what I would like to say is don’t wait. If you want pictures with your loved ones, don’t wait for the perfect time. A professional photographer knows the best ways to light, pose, and position you in a flattering way. Just go for it!
