More outdoors at the studio, with two children that I have enjoyed watching grow up over the years. Older brother is so sweet to his little sister; they totally remind me of my own children and how they got along and interacted when they were that young 
What a blessing it is to see them grow!
I figured I would switch directions completely with this post and show some outdoor child photography. These were done on the studio property. Adorable kids!
Two adorable boys. It’s always difficult to get newborns with their older sibling who is only a few years older, but I was really happy with these images 
Happy is the word to describe this little boy. This is the second time I have had the pleasure of working with A. The last time I saw him, he was 2 or 3 months old. I remember we wanted him to fall asleep so badly, and mom put him down when he did. As soon as mom put him down, he opened his eyes and smiled HUGELY… He smiles constantly. You can’t help but to smile whenever you are around this sweetheart.
So our new portrait studio is coming along nicely; however, it has been a drag not being able to do all the finishing touches quickly with all that snow closing us down for a while. We are still doing photo sessions of course, but not outdoors. It’s a shame, we now have 8 acres to work on, and it’s completely snow covered…. but that’s okay, eventually spring will come
I’ve been so busy painting and organizing, I have neglected my blog. Yesterday was the first day in a while I felt like I was starting to catch up. I’m waiting for many print orders right now, as UPS hasn’t delivered in over a week due to the snow. There’s new studio furniture we’re waiting on as well… so for the next few days, I have some blog posts ready - finally! ;) Beautiful children….
It always amazes me how many expressions a child can have… Will was great - what a personality!
The elusive sibling portraits. All child photographers around the world cringe! LOL! I will freely admit that as a photographer, I prefer to photograph children by themselves, but of course that is because it is a lot easier… But photographing siblings together, though challenging, has its rewards!
Oh wait!… mom is pregnant with #4!!!!

I feel blessed to get to work with families and be a little part of their lives for a brief moment. I’m a very emotional person, and I find I pick up really quickly on the vibes of others, and get a chance to really see their personalities and who they are in this brief time…. Every family is so unique and different, these children were no exception. They wanted to do their own thing for this portrait, and of course I let them. In looking at them here, their personalities are spot on with the picture…
So yeah, I’m a bit behind on blogging. I don’t know where to start back up again ;) To my customers, I have 20 client galleries being published this week, so if you are waiting, yes, yours should be up this week

Happy boy and his mom and dad. This is the second time I have photographed this little guy and it was a pleasure! The first time, he was only a week or two old. There is a picture of him in my portrait website galleries as a baby, and I am sure you can pick out which one he is. He still looks like his baby pictures!
Let’s talk natural light. As you may know, we now have available a Natural Lighting book for sale at www.jodieotte.com/books.htm The book, Just Lighting Naturally, was designed by request after the huge success of Studio Lighting Naturally. I will discuss this book a little more in detail here shortly, so stay tuned…
While my business mainly revolves around studio lighting with babies and expecting moms, I do photograph children quite often in natural lighting, as obviously, children need to feel comfortable and not bored stuck in front of studio lights. For the next few days, I will share natural light images, as I also get a chance to prepare the book link above with more information about the latest Just Lighting Naturally book.
This was from a session several months ago that I hadn’t share on the blog - three absolutely gorgeous little girls…. and their ponies. Oh, and a note for the photographers - these images were taken at “high noon” a scarey bright day - you know those dreaded incredibly bright days where you know you have to REALLY work for that light
Outdoors some more with two little girls… this time of year is so nice for outdoor photography - all around the studio everything is bright green and flowery ;)
I was thinking the other day about how I hate the humidity in Maryland. But without it, we wouldn’t have so much greenery like this. It truly is a beautiful place to live and work.

It hasn’t been just babies, although I will warn, I have plenty more babies to show after this one ;) We’re starting to have some older kids trickle in for spring/summer shoots, so that will be coming up soon. In the meantime, here is a gorgeous 5-month-old girl!
