About the light…
September 18, 2007 – 7:11 am
A lot of people ask me about my photography, and want to know what the secret is. Am I photoshopping a lot? What is it that they are seeing about these images. I have to be honest - it is totally about the light. Light is what makes every single picture.
I’ve been teaching my husband here and there about what types of light he should be looking for when he plays with my camera… I think he is on the right track - he took this one of our daughter the other night while we were out riding… It’s straight-out-of-the camera - his exposure isn’t right on, but he definitely knew what to look for!
In case you missed it :)

Snapshots…
September 13, 2007 – 6:50 am
Okay, I wanted to share more of my personal stuff on this blog, even if they are snapshots… just to make things a big more interesting if anyone is out there reading this!
I’m sure this looks a bit familiar for those with middle school boys *sigh*… but this is totally why I have pets… and yes, I have quite a few pets as you will see in some of my posts. The sad part is I am a neat freak so it takes a lot of work keeping up with them all… but again, when you see things like this, you know why you got those pets in the first place! lol!
Bel Air Festival for the Arts
September 12, 2007 – 5:35 pm
This Sunday, September 16th, you will find me at the Bel Air Festival for the Arts. I really enjoy doing this festival every year. I will have a booth set up with a small portfolio, some coffee table books, and several large pieces on easels. Please stop by and visit!
From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Shamrock Park in Bel Air, Maryland.
Holiday Scheduling… *scroll down for new posts*
September 12, 2007 – 5:03 pm
Holiday Scheduling - very important topic! Please understand - All photo sessions requiring holiday delivery must be scheduled prior to November 10th! That means, your shoot has to take place before November 10th. There are only a limited amount of slots available. We are booking up very very quickly. If you are pregnant and wish to have a maternity shoot, please call now and schedule your shoot. If you have a newborn, call immediately, from the hospital, yes, even from the hospital :). We want to be able to fit you in. I really do not like to turn anyone away, but every year, around this time, everything books up extremely quickly.
Anyone remember this image? Wow… that was three years ago… wow, time flies! A lot has changed since then!
Missing emails!
September 10, 2007 – 4:21 pm
If you have sent an email to me, and I have not responded, please resend. My computer *coughed* and I’m missing some emails. I went back through my files as there were several previous customers who were trying to book now for the holiday season, and as your name rang a bell, I sent an email to you. I don’t think I have missed anyone. If I have, please send another email to info@jottephotography.com
Thank you!

Tricky Black and White Conversion
September 8, 2007 – 8:21 am
Okay, how about some tricky black and white conversions using this action….
First up - light hair, light eyes, and white dress, and the second up is an old image of mine, but I thought it illustrates well the difficulties of converting darker skin, dark hair with white dress (image underexposed for dress) without leaving the image muddy.
These images may not even be "bright" or "contrasty" enough for some taste, but that is totally controllable… my personal taste tends to stay on the "safe" side… :) I don’t like to blow out whole sides of faces, etc., that I see some do. I like to keep tones of black and white and grey throughout the skin, keeping it closer to resembling the color image.

Black and white action for photographers
September 6, 2007 – 8:08 am
I have had an overwhelming amount of requests for my black and white action for PhotoShop 7 or higher (that allows you to control how bright/dark you wish your black and whites to be). I will now be selling it to those who are interested. Here is an example.. (I’m including a simplistic toning action that will allow toning to be fully controlled as far as color and amount.)

Tag!
September 5, 2007 – 2:30 pm
Okay, this is funny… I have had way too many photographers tag me this morning, so I have to play along! lolol! :) The game is to post eight poitns about myself, and then tag 8 other photographers… ack!
1. Going along with Season’s reply…. I was named after Jodie Foster. Go figure!
2. I knew my husband for only six months when I married him - sometimes you just KNOW ;) 12-1/2 years and going strong…
3. I have two kids, my son is 11, daughter is 8, and my stepdaughter is turning 18 in three weeks.
4. I spent 13 years (K-12) at a private Christian school in Perry Hall, Maryland.
5. I was disqualified from a huge art show as a teen because my painting looked too much like Isabella Rossalini (which is funny to me because that is who I painted! lolol!).
6. My home may be referred to as the "Otte Zoo". I do love animals very much, but mixing that with being a neat freak, well… it can be stressful. We have two horses, two dogs, four cats, one house-rabbit, several gerbils, a few lizards, a snake, and a partridge in a pear tree (kidding! ;)) Actually, I am hoping one day we can buy more land - two acres is not enough… I would love to have some goats, and definitely several more horses.
7. I’m obsessed with burning incense…. all kinds, but my favorites are patchouli and dragon’s blood.
8. My favorite foods are sashimi and sushi. I could snack on avocados, sprouts, and edemame every day.
Okay, now to go tag….
