Stunning children…
November 30, 2007 – 11:40 am
Scheduling
November 28, 2007 – 7:10 am
We are currently booking for January and beyond. If you are pregnant or have just recently had a newborn, please call, any "squeeze-in" appointments will only be for maternity or newborns.
Keep in mind, we do tend to book up very quickly. If you are wanting a session in January or beyond, it is never too early to get on the calendar. We have bookings on the calendar already up until July of 2008.
Clarification on The Secret Workshop Photography
November 23, 2007 – 10:10 am
Update: I am no longer part of the Secret Workshop. Please do not associate me with such. I was cheated and lied to. There are many things concerning “business” that I do not agree with. All I have to say is only learn from those who are legitimate and who are true businesses with real clients. Watch out for those who are just out there to make money, no matter who they screw over.
Awwwww…..
November 21, 2007 – 10:05 am
I walked down to my home office this morning and see, in my office, I have this thing with sticky notes… If you look in the background, you can see my customer board… that is a list of current active customers that have not received their final prints yet…. they are all in the ordering/proofing process…. but there was a special sticky note this morning… sitting on a brand new jacket that my husband apparently knew I was eyeing up….
awwwwww….
so in the words of my dear husband, Happy Turkey Day Eve to everyone. I do want to let you all know, there will be six galleries going out in the next two days, so if you are waiting for a gallery, you are going to most likely be getting it this week :) We have extended the ordering date for Christmas pictures to November 30th. Thanks!
Workshop answers….
November 19, 2007 – 8:05 am
I have had a lot of people ask if I will be at all the Secret Workshops. The answer is no. Of course, I will be at all my J. Otte Studio workshops, but as for the Secret Workshop - I will be attending Miami in January and not the California ones. That is what I know thus far
REGISTRATION OPEN!
November 18, 2007 – 1:36 pm
Registration open for J. Otte Studios - workshops!
Here’s the deal with the workshops - This workshop is devoted mostly to the "natural light photographer" who wants to learn about artificial lighting. I will be completely honest with you, when I started out natural light only, I felt like I couldn’t truly call myself a professional photographer until I understood artificial lighting as well (maybe that was just *MY* hangup, I don’t know). There is nothing like feeling secure that I could show up on any assignment or session and know that I could confidently pick the correct tools for the job no matter the location conditions.
This workshop is not out to convince anyone that they HAVE to use artificial lighting - it is just teaching how to be a more well rounded photographer with more tools at your disposal, and that artificial lighting can be used beautifully and "naturally", and it doesn’t have to be harsh and sterile.
A good portion of it is dedicated to shooting newborns because there is quite a dilemma if you live in an area that gets dark winters, and there isn’t always natural light to be had. It’s one thing rescheduling a session for an older child, but you only have a small window of opportunity with newborns to shoot them "freshly born", and you can’t always wait it out for better lighting.
So registrations are up. Attendees are limited to 12 at each workshop to allow for a smaller intimate setting, only two are scheduled at this time - one in April and one in May of 2008.
If you have any questions, please give me a call at 443.299.2752 or email me at info@jottephotography.com Thank you!
Workshop site

It’s Tracey’s turn…
November 15, 2007 – 7:09 am
Tracey, I cannot thank you enough for being so very patient. You know this Christmas rush has completely kicked my behind ;) Guess what? It’s your turn. The next blog post will be about your images.
Beautiful eyes….
November 14, 2007 – 7:25 pm

New website in the works…
November 9, 2007 – 7:42 am
A little peek at the new website in the works. Although my primary focus is on children’s photography, I have other assignments periodically throughout the year, and other commissioned work that sometimes relates to child photography but usually doesn’t… We will be launching the website hopefully within the next couple of weeks.
We are considering having a section for limited signed art prints that are for sale, as I am not having the time as of late to keep up with gallery showings.
Living in the country
November 7, 2007 – 5:16 pm
My friend, Tracey, who lives right down the road from me, wrote this on her blog. I had to cut and paste it… she’s so right.
You know you live in the country when…
1. Your neighbor’s pet rooster is your alarm clock in the morning.
2. A traffic jam means you are stuck behind some piece of farm equipment on your 2 lane "highway."
3. The worst crime you have is trespassing campers who find it irresistible to pitch their tent on your property.
4. You don’t have a zip code to call your own, you have to borrow one from a town in the neighboring county.
5. Road noise means the combine working late at night during the fall harvest.
6. The livestock population outnumbers the human population.
7. The closest town only has a post office, a bank, and a grocery store. Oh yeah, a barber (with the red and white swirly thing) too.
8. The closest Wal Mart and McDonalds is two towns away.
9. The same kids in your child’s class are the same kids on his/her sports teams, who are the same exact kids at everyone’s birthday parties.
10. There is no pizza delivery service. *sniff*
11. You have to drive over 1/2 hour to play another recreation council in Little League.
12. Stoplights? What are stoplights?
13. The talk of the town is the neighbor’s kid’s 4H pig that didn’t make weight for slaughter. And no one blinks during this conversation.
Hope you don’t mind me copying and pasting this from your blog, Tracey… I just found it absolutely right on!!!!
but don’t forget the Starbucks… I have to drive 20 minutes to the nearest Starbucks!!! Imagine THAT! We JUST got this Starbucks too! Thankfully I can get my fix at the Harmony Cafe below my studio most of the time
I should accompany this with pictures… here’s some pictures I took at the riding stables that my kids go to (yes, one of these days, we will have our own stables…. and….. chickens…. yeah, chickens… and probably goats too cause my kids love to play with goats… lolol… no rooster though… that would probably irritate me….
and this is the road that leads from my house to Tracey’s house…. when I say "living in the cornfields", I really mean it…..
Did ya notice?
November 6, 2007 – 6:20 pm
I’ve had my portrait website overhauled a bit - but I’m still adding images to the galleries - I’m sure it will be a while before I am done…. We have some other new things in store…. will update as we progress…
A little bit of magic *big grin*
November 6, 2007 – 7:52 am
This post is in response to a comment below about how much PhotoShop is used on my images. To be honest with you, not much - unless I am planning on creating an image that I purposely want to look digital and photoshopped to death - but I really don’t have time to tinker too much. It’s just about a little pop which I share at workshops. Here’s a before and after. It’s not magic (okay, whoops, didn’t mean to contradict myself, maybe it is just a wee bit of magic… lolol), just a teeny bit of pop. I will admit, my black and white conversions take a little more thought and light touch - but I sell that as an action.
Blue blue blue eyes!
November 5, 2007 – 10:16 am
No more November photo sessions available.
November 2, 2007 – 5:45 pm
We are now booking only a few slots left for December and then into January. If you are expecting a baby and desire either a maternity or newborn photo session, please contact immediately to obtain a session time.
Thank you!
