We are opening up more time for the casting call.   Please stop in between 9:30 and 12:30 and 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.  If you wish to come at the “quietest” hours, that will be in the morning, and in the afternoon around 3 p.m.

More info coming…

MODEL CASTING CALL | Baltimore, Maryland

We are having an open live casting call for all babies between the ages of 3 months and 12 months on Tuesday, November 3rd Monday, November 2nd at the Black Horse Studio in Northern Baltimore County (Monkton), Maryland. Your child may be over the age of 12 months as long as he/she is not at the stage of running ;) Please pass along this information to everyone you know who has a baby between those ages! We will have a morning and evening schedule for the casting that day. If you are a current client, you are also welcome to be a part of this. You must bring your child to the studio at 1900 Monkton Road, Monkton, MD 21111 but please send us an email at jodieotte@verizon.net and let us know your name, a little about your child, and his/her age/birthday ahead of time (please do not include pictures - we will take our own), so we can get a count of how many are planning on attending. We will also give you more information as well as what to expect.   And please do not bring your baby if he/she is sick.  Please let me know if you have a sick child that day and we will make other arrangements if possible.  Thank you!

And because I cannot post without an image - here is one of the images you may recognize from the ad campaign that we shot this past spring.

Baltimore Baby Photographer - Shallow Depth of Field with Studio Lights

Besides wanting to show this gorgeous little girl - I wanted to discuss some misinformation out there in the photography industry. So many die-hard natural light photographers don’t believe you can have similar results with studio lighting as you can with natural lighting. I get this question during my workshops almost every time. Can you shoot wide apertures in studio? Absolutely!!!! So for all those photographers who know they need to start learning or utilizing studio lights due to conditions you face especially in the winter months, this post is for you! ;) Here are some shallow depth of field, wide aperture newborn images done totally with studio lighting. I’ll be sharing more in the weeks to come. This is just one of the things I teach regarding studio lighting naturally.

Photography Workshop / Classes, children, babies, newborns, maternity

The new schedule for photography classes has been released. This will be a more in-depth two day workshop that focuses on studio lighting, natural lighting, posing, and business! You won’t get lost in the crowd as in many workshops - groups are small - 1-4 per workshop. You may even chose to be one-on-one only.

Please go to http://www.jodieotte.com/mentoring.htm or click HERE for all details! If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me at jodieotte@verizon.net

And I can’t post without a picture - I have many from this session that are absolutely beautiful, and I will share more later…

While seeing my daughter off on the bus this morning, I happened to look down and spot this… I miss shooting for fun - just shooting every day objects and nature around me, and hope to get back into it at some point, but running a busy studio is keeping me from bringing out my camera during non-working times, so I’ll grab things when I can… :)

We’re going to back up just for a moment…  I can’t believe that fall has really arrived.  I’m loving this cool crisp weather!  So I felt like the Cape Hatteras Storm pictures would have to be shared before it gets too cold!  This was our last evening in Hatteras - we watched an amazing storm come through from our deck…

Completely for Fun - Chicken update…

You’ve probably seen our “chicken adventure” this year (if not, just type in chickens in the search box, and you’ll see… ;))  We purchased chicks back in April, and we are finally getting eggs.  We have a nice little flock of 13 hens and 1 rooster.  We did lose a hen a month ago to a racoon, so we had to reinforce our chicken run yet again…  Those are VERY smart creatures.  They can reach through fencing and grab chickens by their necks and “disassemble” them through the wire.   That’s probably more than  you wanted to know - believe me, it was more than *I* wanted to know as well.   At any rate, it was a beautiful evening, so our chickens looked so bright under the evening light… we’ve been letting them free range a bit in the evening.  Erynn stands guard and watches them carefully, herding them back to safety. That’s usually the job of the rooster, but he is a very gentle roo, and I’m not sure he fully understands he is supposed to protect his girls ;)
