Horse Photography – It’s spring!

I know I know…. update your blog, Jodie!  I promise, I try… and then get a bit ADD and forget…. ;)  At any rate, I hope you all don’t mind, I will be sharing a lot of horse/equestrian related posts.   I have a few commercial jobs that involve horses, but also, it’s spring!  That means all kinds of horse-related activities. For anyone local who has horse-loving children – I live right on the border of MD and PA (Harford County side) and I board my horses in Airville, PA at Muddy Creek Read more […]

High School Senior Photography

We are happy to announce this year, that we’ve expanded into more high school senior photography.  As soon as possible, the website will be changed around to include much more in the portfolio. Here’s Amber and Ping.  Ping actually is related to my daughter’s horse, Stormy – they have the same father ;)  ….. this was a really fun shoot.  Amber is simply gorgeous inside and out.  She participated in horse vaulting at the Horse Expo in Timonium this week, and I was able to be there to photograph Read more […]

Photographing horses….

Okay, so I had to also add a photo of my daughter, Erynn, which had to match up with my son’s photos below.   This was a bit more difficult.  So last minute between editing client work and getting Erynn to her vaulting class, I decided to throw my equipment in the back of my vehicle and head over to the barn.  We had 15 minutes to set up as we were losing light fast.  I set the equipment up in the field, and went in to meet up with Erynn who had No-Brakes (the bay/brown horse) ready, and I ran Read more […]

KILE show and National High School Rodeo Association – Harrisburg Pennsylvania

So we attended the KILE show at the Harrisburg Farm Complex this weekend.  I was absolutely amazed.  You typically don’t think when you live in Maryland with Baltimore so close, that not too far away in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, this stuff exists ;)   We were able to see the National High School Rodeo Association have a rodeo, right where my daughter and I had just competed in Western Gaming…. This is how the show started: Then there was the roping and steer wrestling…. So did Read more […]

Horse and Boy

You cannot help but smile when you meet Jack…. this boy is all personality and no matter if he is happy or being ornery, you can’t stop smiling around him!!!  It’s going to be amazing watching him grow up on a horse farm and have so much confidence!   Here is Jack and his Pedro (one of the most patient horses ever).  ;) Read more […]

PA National Horse Show

I thought I would share something a little different…. Weeks back, a bunch of us went to the GRAND PRIX de PENN NATIONAL I’m always amazed to watch these horses fly. My daughter is competing 3-foot jumpers at some local places, and I’m hovering between 2 and 2-1/2 feet myself. But these jumps are 5-feet jumps… just amazing…. For the photographers, I’m shooting with the Nikon D3s, 70-200 mm/2.8 lens at 12,800 ISO. Read more […]

Maryland horse photography

Has it really been this long since I have updated? Wow… Life has been crazy. After returning from Australia in March, we moved studios – yes, we have moved! I love our new location, it’s in Phoenix, MD which is just outside of Towson. We’ve held a Studio Lighting Naturally workshop in the new studio as well as recently, we did another commercial print shoot. One thing after another, and I haven’t at all had time to update the blog. So here I sit, finally on a much-needed vacation, I have Read more […]

Horse Farm | Baltimore Child Photographer

I loved photographing this little guy at his grandmother’s horse farm.  Gorgeous location, and he was such a challenge as he pretty much ran the entire session – kept me on my toes ;) I’m putting this blog on “auto” mode – meaning, I’m away in Australia (or in transit) right now teaching photographers. I’ve never been out of the country, either have my kids or husband, so this is quite the adventure, and I will definitely be sharing our experience. While I am gone, though, I have the Read more […]

This was shot at Patapsco Horse Center. I insist when I photograph children or teens with their horses that we must photograph at sunset – the lighting is simply perfect. Read more […]

Important Info:

Hello all – I will be resuming posting some portraits here shortly – it’s been a while!  One of my resolutions of course was to shoot more personal stuff, and to share more of everything on this blog. IMPORTANT: You may or may not know this, we had a computer virus that went across four hard drives on my PC workstation (yes, I am PC and MAC for those who must know ;)).   I’m actually still recovering emails from weeks ago.  If you have emailed me, and I have not responded, please email again Read more […]

Natural Light Child Photography | Baltimore Maryland

Let’s talk natural light.  As you may know, we now have available a Natural Lighting book for sale at www.jodieotte.com/books.htm  The book, Just Lighting Naturally, was designed by request after the huge success of Studio Lighting Naturally. I will discuss this book a little more in detail here shortly, so stay tuned… While my business mainly revolves around studio lighting with babies and expecting moms, I do photograph children quite often in natural lighting, as obviously, children need Read more […]

For Fun…

Erynn had another pleasure show yesterday —   But in the upper ring, they were having a reining show, and I just had to snap a few images, as the dust was awesome flying up and around (but not good for the lungs….) Read more […]

Weekend Paper Chase in PA…

My daughter, Erynn, and I just finished up a Paper Chase in PA this weekend… I’m happy to report, no falls, although my mare did rear on me twice as she gets pretty hyped up when there is competition…  I enjoy this with my daughter so very much, and I know I have to hold onto these moments as before I know it, it will be so uncool to ride out with mom… *sigh*  So I will cherish every second!           Read more […]

Quick Post…

Will add some more client pictures soon, just been so incredibly busy – Spring and Fall are always the busiest times of year for portraits!  In our spare time, my daughter has been working hard getting ready for a few horse shows… just had to share – this is her first year English riding.  She’s actually planning on doing at least one jumping show this year – can’t wait! ;)  We’re still not positive what we are going to do with her horse’s mane.  Like Erynn’s own “mane”, it’s incredibly long, Read more […]

Finally! | Child photography workshop, baby photography workshop

Finally, indeed, this is the image I have been waiting to capture for a year now.   I know some may not “get it” but my studio is located in the heart of a very Equestrian area – From Shawan Downs to Fox Hunting it’s all here! So a year ago, I had the idea of photographing a baby on an English saddle, and we finally made it happen. I had an assistant that day, the lovely and talented Virginia Payne She was here for a mini workshop/mentoring. It was so nice having an extra set of hands, and she Read more […]
